June 1, 2010
For those of you who have been following our progress, you may remember that WinMock was recently nominated to be included on The National Register of Historic Places. We were absolutely thrilled and honored to receive this wonderful opportunity. It truly exemplifies the barn’s significance to our community, our state and our nation.
Following the nomination, we quickly realized that with this great honor comes quite a bit of paperwork and a lengthy approval process. Our timeline and our May, 2010 start date were put on hold until we knew what the approval process would be with the NC Historic Preservation Office, as well as the U.S. Dept. of the Interior and National Park Service.
Well, I’m happy to report that we just received word that we have been approved by the NC Historic Preservation Office and have indication that we will be approved by the Dept. of the Interior for designation as a historic property. This response will allow us to begin final planning that should allow for an August 1st start date on renovations to WinMock.
We simply cannot wait to finally bring the barn back to life and be ready for Summer 2011 weddings, corporate meetings and special events!
We would like to extend thanks to our community for your support, advice and encouragement in this process. We would also like to send an extra special thank you again to all of our 2011 wedding couples for your patience as we work through this process. We are honored to have you share your big day with us next year!
