One of the best ways to set the tone for your wedding leading up to that big day is through your stationery! Your save the date and your invitation are both ways to let your personality shine through to your guests and give a glimpse into the style of your wedding day!
The following are a few different ways we love customizing wedding stationery and paper goods!
The first, a popular stationery trend that has recently popped up, is letterpress stationery. Letterpress is a plate-based printing method where the chosen lettering is pressed onto a piece of paper. Letterpress shops are usually small and independently owned, allowing for a very personal touch. You can work with the artist to determine the exact lettering and look that you want your stationery to have, and it will result in a very crisp-looking, one-of-a-kind product.
It is a great option for a couple that wants to support a local business as opposed to buying from a larger printing corporation. A few things to consider when deciding whether or not to use letterpress printing are that letterpress invitations do not typically allow for a wide array of colors to be used and the coloring on the stationery will have a matte look. Also, letterpress stationery will not allow for any sort of photograph to be added, but can allow simple graphics, like the above set. Lastly, letterpress can be one of the more expensive stationery options.
Another stationery option is foil stamping. Foil stamping is when a pigment or metallic foil is applied to paper and it leaves an impression. It creates a three-dimensional effect by creating raised or receded images and designs in the paper. The effect is beautiful! Some of the benefits of foil stamping are that the foil color does not change, regardless of the color of the paper it is stamped onto. The color you choose remains consistent. Also, it really gives a beautiful pop to the stationery!
Calligraphy is a trend that seems to be ever-growing. Calligraphy gives your invitations a more traditional feel and is a great way to ensure that each piece of your wedding stationery is unique, as each one will be designed either by hand or digitally by the calligrapher. Calligraphy is perfect for giving your stationery a bit of a formal and elegant feel. You also have the ability to customize and tailor every detail exactly the way you want it, and you can play around with different colors and calligraphy styles.
For example, if you want dark paper with lighter lettering, the calligrapher will be able to use lighter color inks that will show up on the dark paper, while a printer might not be able to achieve the same effect. If you are considering calligraphy, do know that it can take quite a bit of time for the calligrapher to complete each piece, even up to several months in advance.
There are plenty of other stationery options for your special day! You can choose from hundreds of invitations online, and many of them are very customizable, allowing pictures, various fonts, and giving the option of ordering addressed envelopes as well!
In the end, find the stationery that showcases your personality as a couple and gives your guests a sneak peek of your fabulous day to come!
